What you will need:
1 tablespoon yeast
1/4 cup warm water
2 cups boiling water
1 cup quick oats
2 tablespoons shortening, melted
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sliced or slivered almonds
4-1/2 to 5 cups all-purpose or bread flour
Steps to yummy goodness:
1 ) Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water in a small bowl.
2 ) In a large bowl pour boiling water over quick oats. Add melted shortening, yeast mixture, sugar, salt, and almonds.
3 ) Add 4-1/2 cups of flour. Knead for 2-3 minutes, adding a little more flour if dough is sticky.
4 ) Let rise til double in bulk, about 1 hour.
5 ) Knead for another 2-3 minutes on a floured surface.
6 ) Form into two loaves. Set into greased loaf pans and brush with melted butter.
7 ) Bake at 325 degrees for 40-50 minutes.
